چکیده
Currently, Mexico is facing an energy transition, therefore updated policy regulations pertaining to the sustainable use of biomass are needed. In particular, that favors produce and bioproducts privilege climate change mitigation This review describes maguey (Agave spp.) nopal (Opuntia spp.; also known as “cactus”) for biofuel production, especially in marginal areas. Emphasis given on documented case studies discussing features production cultivation both nopal, addition their potential fuel production. Environmental social sustainability issues terms waste value new opportunities bioenergy feedstocks byproducts discussed. Although paper does not deeply describe aspects transformation, such bioprocess configurations, it gives characteristics cultivation. Agave Opuntia species may represent a suitable feedstock biofuels, bioproducts, biorefineries, dry lands (semi-arid sub-humid), deforested areas, agroforestry systems agricultural semi-terraces metepantle Mexico.

Sustainable use of biotechnology for bioenergy feedstocks.
Done correctly, cellulosic bioenergy should be both environmentally and economically beneficial. Carbon sequestration and decreased fossil fuel use are both worthy goals in developing next-generation biofuels. We believe that biotechnology will be needed to significantly improve yield and digestibility of dedicated perennial herbaceous biomass feedstocks, such as switchgrass and Miscanthus, whi...
متن کاملRedefining Agricultural Residues as Bioenergy Feedstocks
The use of plant biomass is a sustainable alternative to the reduction of CO₂ emissions. Agricultural residues are interesting bioenergy feedstocks because they do not compete with food and add extra value to the crop, which might help to manage these residues in many regions. Breeding crops for dual production of food and bioenergy has been reported previously, but the ideal plant features are...

Eucalypt species are a group of flowering trees widely used in pulp production for paper manufacture. For several decades, the wood pulp industry has focused research and development efforts on improving yields, growth rates and pulp quality through breeding and the genetic improvement of key tree species. Recently, this focus has shifted from the production of high quality pulps to the investi...

Venice, 21 September 2007 – With the 2007 report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stating the need to reduce the anthropogenic emission of greenhouse gases from fossil fuels and the directive of the European Community calling for biofuels to meet 5.75 percent of European transport needs by 2010, and 10 percent by 2020, an urgent need for action in plant sciences arises ...
